The devoper API deadline has been extended for those who missed the news. If you don’t know what an API is, you probably don’t need to worry about it. For those of you who were asleep at the wheel, here’s your chance to redeem yourself.

Another Google Update — Ho Ho Ho

Just in time for the holidays, Google will upgrade the product search capabilities of their search engine. Now this isn’t really news of course. Vendors all across the board are putting their plans in place for the coming holiday rush. Already the likes of eBay, Shopzilla and others have made tweaks here and there getting ready for the crunch. Even Hallmark’s free card site was down for a while — we assume they are ramping up for the rush as well as each year they get shut down from the number of free greeting cards sent. Are you ready? Have you plans in place on how you’ll do better this year? Better start those planning gears now!

You Do Have Your New API? Right?

The deadline has passed to sign up for your new API. If you haven’t done so, do it right now to avoid having your API shut off for too long. October first is the date Google starts charging for people using their AdWords API. Why are they doing it? Because they can. What is an API key? If you don’t know, chances are you don’t use one. However, if you are paying for someone to manage your AdWords campaign and they haven’t renewed, it’s time for you to find another person managing your campaign or question how they are able to manage your campaign.

Google Allowing Email Ads?

Google’s own Adsense TOS states that one cannot use adsense ads in an email campaign, yet it appears they are giving some people permission to do so. Review this thread at Digital Point.

Windows Live Ad Slide

Microsoft’s Windows Live search site has added relevant searches in the upper right corner of most search screens. While this is certainly very helpful for users to find what they are really searching for, it does slide the paid ads lower down the page….sometimes past the fold. While it isn’t certain how or if this will affect click throughs on paid ads, it is worth watching especially if you are advertising on Live.com.

Intuit and Google are Buds

Intuit, maker of QuickBooks, and Google, maker of the Google Desktop Search, are integrating their products. Now I really don’t want another ad in Quickbooks. There are enough already. (Aren’t programs containing advertisements usually free?) What I really don’t like is a new Google Desktop Search that lets people search accounting data. Sounds like an area for people to be able to hack into data they should be viewing.

All in all, it’s a great move for Intuit as well as Google. Read more on their press release.
