Free Wordtacker Tool
It’s limited to 100 related keywords, but it’s free. I always like free. I’m sure you do too. No adult terms which is too bad really. I like to know if I’m optimizing on keywords that I shouldn’t be optimizing on. Really…I’m old… I don’t know all the modern slang. Ok…don’t believe me.
Yahoo! Site Explorer Adds New Goodies
The Site Explorer tool now lets you authenticate using META tags, provides detailed authentication errors, allows you to delete URLs (really?) and offers the site explorer badge.
The first two are great. Delete URLs? Now that sounds dangerous. Change your password now to a very secure one. Site Badge…now don’t be silly…we already trashed that ridiculous thing.
The first two are great and you should look into them if you are doing your own web marketing. And of course you are using the Yahoo! Site Explorer already aren’t you????

Google Maps With Reviews
The reviews keep coming and going and coming and…. Google search results could include a map with reviews. Search for a restaurant at Google maps in your area and see what comes up. There may or may not be reviews there. The questions you need to ask yourself is if you are listed in Google Local and if so, do you have any favorable reviews.
MSN Live Penalizing Back-Linking
Is MSN being too heavy handed in penalizing for back-linking? Back-linking is rapidly building unrelated links to your site. Typically this is done through link-swapping software and other techniques frowned on by every reliable search engine. MSN is penalizing not only the offending site, but also every site on the IP address. This means if you are sharing an IP address with someone else, their actions could result in your being banned. Contact your hosting company to make certain you have your own IP address and upgrade to a service that allows you to have your own.
Yahoo! Site Explorer – Not Recommended
In the “why are they doing this” category is the Yahoo! badge. This displays a count of inbound links to your site. What is wrong with this you ask? It’s not about quantity, but quality. I’d rather have one good link from an authority like Miscrosoft than one link from Bob the auto mechanic. Number of links is garbage information and only for the vain. Want to tell everyone that you are unprofessional and have self-esteem issues….put this on your site right next to your Alexa tag and your number of hits counter.
Microsoft Search Live Submission Broken
Microsoft’s Search Live submission feature is still not working. Good thing I provide paid listings for most of my customers….paid listings were still working last time I needed to use them.
Adware Begone!
Advertisers are responsible for techniques used by marketing firms they hire. A very expensive judgement against Priceline, Travelocity, and Cingular requires that they repay investigation costs to New York and do things right in the future including providing a way for people to remove the intrusive software. Finally a good court decision that actually protects people.

Being Too Connected?
Will the search world totally invade all of our activities? Imagine writing a document and having the software know all you’ve typed before and offering suggestions based on that information. Or having it search the Internet for similar documents and related information. Imagine a GPS phone that knows where you are, knows that you need to be somewhere at a certain time and instantly notifies the people you are meeting that you will be late.
Sound kind of scary? Perhaps, but maybe humans will be smart enough to use it wisely. I’ll believe that when I don’t see anyone driving while talking on their cell phone.

When Not to Be Listed
Identity theft is obviously an issue for many, however there are the fearmongers that will take advantage. The simple truth is, never give out personal information unless you really have to. Argue with people asking for it when you think it isn’t needed. Along this vein of thought is a web site where you can enter your SSN to see if it has been stolen. Alarms and bells should go off right away. Why give your personal information to an Internet startup…a company you don’t know? Just for chuckles, we searched for a few known tv stars that were given fake SS numbers. Mr. Ed, the talking horse, hasn’t had his identity stolen. Thomas Magnum, the private eye, has. Rule of thumb is don’t have thumbs. You can’t type as easily.
Moral of the story….be careful what information you enter even if it’s just to get your site listed on a web site. It may not be worth the listing.
