Google is so aggressive in finding spam that it mistook it’s own blog for spam and deleted it from their own index. The Custom Search Blog temporarily displayed an error message until Google repaired the error. While this may cause public shame for a while, it does show that Google is trying to flag sites as spam and we applaud their efforts. They also provide a method for letting them know if your site is accidentally flagged. Like us, they aren’t perfect.
This is useless information, but check it out just to see that the top searches prove how stupid the average person is. I particularly like to see people searching for hotels.com. Now if you know the url, why are you searching for it? If you have a small web site, you probably haven’t a chance of getting and keeping a high ranking for any of these terms, but it’s interesting to see some of the insane things people waste their time on. There may be a few ideas for you in there.

It’s definitely not a new frontier, but there is another person search in town. Spock is now public and promises a smarter search than Google. So far I’m not convinced, but then it’s still beta. There is an option to invite people to be listed so feel free to invite yourself if you aren’t paranoid.
Here’s a Google cheat sheet that includes vitually every command you’d ever want and some you’d probably never conceive existed. Although it may look similar to Google’s site, it is not from Google. Download as a PDF and enjoy!
Google has removed the link to the supplemental index. This index would show webmasters which pages weren’t ranking well and allow them to fix what was wrong with those pages. Naturally people wigged out if they had pages in the supplemental index and rather than try to resolve the issue, they’d bug Google about it. This forum contains a discussion about the issue with both negative and positive feedback on the issue. I’d like to see the index return under webmaster tools. Perhaps Google being bugged about this going away will result in such a compromise.
