Yahoo! News…If You Missed It….
Geo-target and language at Yahoo Search Marketing is now a few days old. Have you visited your PPC account to view the new options? Many appreciate the changes however it appears that you can’t combine the options. Small marketing companies appear to benefit the most, but I can also see some very valid reasons for any sized marketing campaign.
Image Update
Let the Google reindexing begin! It’s holiday frenzy time when Google starts indexing everything in preparation of the Christmas time scams. No one is certain, but it appears that Google is indexing their images. If you receive traffic from your images listings, you may see some changes in traffic. Discussion at Webmaster World….
Google image update, but could be a filter only update
Bad News Is Really Good
Can bad reviews help your rankings? Perhaps. Here’s a forum thread where the poster complains about a competitor ranking high perhaps because of all the bad reviews with links in them. There may be other factors of course, but it does raise an interesting question. Google sees links. They may not know that these are bad reviews and so treat the links as negatives. These complaints may actually be helping this company sell even more product.
Want better rankings. Maybe you should practice poor customer service?
My competitor has lots of links from people complaining about them!
Yahoo! Price Increase
A 25% increase just before the holidays. Merry Flippin’ Christmas to you too Yahoo!. They are also changing phone support to email only. There are a number of other posts across the boards along similar lines. Is Yahoo! burying themselves into a hole? Are they strapped for cash? Are they raising funds to fight the entity that is Google? Is so, shouldn’t we get shares in their stock?
All kidding aside, every company has had price increases. You must decide is this advertising is valuable for your own company. If you are still obtaining value for the dollars spent, live with it or cancel your ads. You’ve probably increased your prices this year as well. (Ok, maybe not 25% unless you sell petroleum.)
Photo Content Search
Google has added a photo content search that improved the ability to bring up the photo you are looking for. Try it out at the Google Advanced Image Search. Trying to get your photos listed better? Don’t forget to enter the IPTC information in each of your photos for better exposure. If you don’t know how to do this, ask a graphics expert (or become a customer and ask me).
Google Blog Search Relaunch
Google Blog Search is revamped looking like it is using the technology from Google News. Popular stories are grouped into individual stories you can drill into.
